The American Science and Surplus in Chicago has everything and nothing. Why wasn't it available to me at the age of 14? They have everything from microscopes and telescopes to geods and robot kits..... to large bags of broken glass and old office furniture, no kidding. It's so wonderful to go and look at everything they have for sale (not to mention every sign and description of what you're about to buy). I found all kinds of stuff to make my meat man skeleton and brought it back with me to Austin, where I just moved. Wires, motors, zip ties, freon tubes...
And it's not just a junk store to buy stuff, it REALLY has a concise array of goods directed at a certain potential consumer: young kids with their parents buying robot motors, big and dorky guys buying robot motors, and unusually, really HOT girls buying robot motors. The last time I was in there, there were four girls all super gorgeous and in a mental zone apparently buying supplies for whatever crazy thing they were about to build! The place is AWESOME!!
Luckily for me they have a catalogue and website http://www.sciplus.com/
So whenever I need an oscillator whose output shaft is 1-3/4" long OA x 6mm dia, and partially threaded, I can order that guy from these good people. And a radiometer.
